Step 1
Please check from a competent astrologer whether or not Emerald suits you. Wearing a gemstone that does not suit you as per your astrological chart is not recommended. Gemstones bring changes in your natural energy fields and wearing a non suitable gemstone can be harmful. Only upon verification of the above, move to Step 2.

Step 2
Buy an Emerald on a Wednesday during the Shukla Paksha (the ascending moon cycle). If you have problems purchasing an Emerald on Wednesday, then, purchase it on a Friday. It is better still if Mercury is in its own sign, Gemini or Virgo. Emerald may also be purchased when the nakshatra (constellation) is Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati, or Rohini.

Step 3
The ring should be set in Gold and the stone mounted in open backed ring such that it can touch the finger that you wear on. The weight of the Emerald should be not be less than 1.5 rattikas. (1 Rattika = 0.9 carats).  Wear Emerald that have weight such as 5 to 5 ˝ rattikas.

Step 4
Upon receiving the ring, decide on the day to wear it keeping in mind the rules given in Step 2. The ring should be worn two hours after Sunrise.

Step 5
Sit facing East, North or Northeast on a green colored asana. Keep the ring immersed in raw cow’s milk. Then wash it with Ganga-water or water kept in a copper pot overnight. After it has been washed, keep the ring on a green cloth on which a Mercury Yantra (numerical yantra may be used) is drawn with red sandalwood paste or saffron or roli.

Step 6
Offer flowers, incense to the yantra and the Emerald and chant the following mantra 108 times:

"Aum Bum Budhaye Namah Aum" or "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaaya"

Step 7
Wear the ring.
